EMMY-nominated TV star, LGBTQ icon, comedian and nude-disco electronic artist John Roberts, best known as the voice of lovable Linda Belcher on the hit TV show Bob’s Burgers, has released her debut album, Lights Out (via X-Bop). Produced by Junior Sanchez, it features appearances by Debbie Harry, Beth Ditto and babydaddy (Scissor Sisters).

John previously released two Lights Out singles with music videos. Starring Blondie’s Debbie Harry, “Lights Out” also has a trippy animated video directed and hosted by Kris Baldwin (Birds of Prey, Cartoon Networks DC Super Hero Girls) and secondly the lead single “Freaks” with a video directed and choreographed by Nina McNeely (Rihanna, Bjork, Banks). John also released an album “Freaks” (Remixes) with tracks featuring Harry Romero, Tommie Sunshine & On Deck and Ant LaRock. The Harry Romero reached number one in the Tech House ranking.

About John Roberts:

Hailing from Edison, New Jersey, John Roberts’ deeply rooted love for music dates back to his youth. In the early 90s, he fell in love with the New York rave scene and frequented the legendary warehouse parties portrayed in films like “Go.” He visited Other Music in the city’s avant-garde Village neighborhood every week to purchase new versions of Orbital, Moby and more. Going from a music lover to a band was obvious, and Roberts found himself the leader of Opti-Enter. The group released an album and toured relentlessly. To close the loop, former touring mates Blondie urged him to unleash a lyrical fire on “Love Level” from their critically acclaimed 2017 chart number one Pollinator. “Looking,” a wild anthem produced by Big Black Delta, followed in 2019, marked its solo debut with remixes by Tensnake, Junior Sanchez and Gerd Janson. The song, which landed 19th on the UK club charts, along with “Dirty Little Secrets” and “Lonely Boys Have Fun Too” appeared on its eponymous EP released last summer. Flashforward until 2020, Roberts entered the studio with his longtime friend Junior Sanchez for his follow-up. “Freaks” – released now – is one of many songs the two have collaborated with that appear on Roberts’ album Lights Out.

On the actor side, John Roberts has gone from viral YouTube clips like “The Christmas Tree”, “My Son is Gay” and “Jackie & Debra” (generating over 40 million views) to appearances on “The Tonight Show” , “Archer” and more and more touring alongside Margaret Cho. He then joined the cast of EMMY award-winning “Bob’s Burgers” as the adorable and boisterous matriarch Linda Belcher, which has her earned EMMY’s first nod in the category “Outstanding Performance in Voice Over” (2015). The series is now in its 11th season with a feature film due for release in spring 2022.
