Door County will host the dance movers, fabricators and shakers from all over the Midwest to Death’s Gate Dance Festival July 22-24.

Friday, the Wickman House11976 Mink River Road in Ellison Bay, will host a pop up performance of guest artists. Gather on the lawn to discover original and cutting-edge contemporary work in this intimate venue.

On Saturday, the village halls of Ephraim and Sister Bay will host free public lessons where everyone – beginners to advanced, flamenco to yoga – are welcome to learn. Saturday evening, the programming of artists will expand to the Sister Bay Beach Performance Pavilion with choreographers from Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Houston and Durham sharing a range of dance aesthetics. Grab your beach blanket or folding chair, pack a cooler and celebrate the joy of dancing.

The Sister Bay Village Hall will host Coffee and conversation Sunday morning with author, scholar and choreographer Sarah Wilbour. The participants will be mainly in the field of dance, but all artist, ally of the artsorganizer or defender of the arts is welcome to participate.

To close the festivities, Door County Wildwood Market will host a dance jam featuring live musical accompaniment. Led by choreographer Dan Schuchart and accompanied by Tim Russell, this improvised dance event offers the rare opportunity to witness the process to dance.
