Drake is Billboard’s Artist of the Decade

At the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, Drake – who holds the Most BBMA title with 27 after winning 12 awards in 2019 – will receive the Artist of the Decade award. Drake is a finalist in seven categories at this year’s show, including Best Artist. The event hosted by Nick Jonas will air live Sunday, May 23 on NBC at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.

Below, Billboard also reveals for the first time the numbers 2 to 5 of the best artists, all genres combined, of the 2010s.

At n ° 2 on BillboardThe top performers of the 2010s, Taylor Swift garnered five No.1s each on the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 during the decade. Bruno Mars ranks No.3 (seven Hot 100 No.1s and a Billboard 200 leader in the 2010s), followed by Rihanna No.4 (nine and two No.1s, respectively) and Adele No.5 (four and two # 1, respectively).

Drake’s victory over BillboardThe top performers of the 2010s follow Eminem, who won for the 2000s, and 90s champion Mariah Carey. Eminem led the Billboard 200 with five albums and the Hot 100 with two songs in the 2000s, while Carey brought together 14 Hot 100 No.1s and four Billboard 200 leaders in the ’90s (the first decade for which achievement was awarded).

As Drake chairs the 2010s Best Artist Chart spanning all genres, he joins previously announced winners for specific genres: Luke Bryan (country), Imagine Dragons (rock), Romeo Santos (Latin), The Chainsmokers (dance / electronic), MercyMe (Christian) and Tasha Cobbs Leonard (gospel). Additionally, U2 claims top touring honors, while Drake was previously announced as the winner in the R & B / hip-hop category.

Additionally, “Uptown Funk !,” by Mark Ronson, starring Bruno Mars, reigns as the # 1 song of the 2010s Hot 100s and Adele. 21 reigns as the No. 1 Billboard 200 album of the decade.

How we mapped out the decade: Billboardof End-of-decade recaps of the 2010s encompasses chart performances from December 5, 2009 through September 28, 2019 (with the exception of Social 50, which debuted on December 11, 2010, and Hot Dance / Electronic Songs and Streaming Songs, each of which launched on January . 26, 2013).

On the end-of-decade Hot Songs and Top Albums recaps, tracks are ranked using an inverse point system, with weeks at # 1 on the weekly charts yielding the most value and weeks at the bottom positions yielding the least. . Due to changes in chart methodology and stock turnover rates over the decade, some time periods have been weighted differently.

Top artist recaps are ranked based on a formula that combines the performances, as shown above, from all of their entries in the table. Specifically, the Global Top Artist category ranks top performing artists based on Billboard Hot 100 song chart activity and Billboard 200 album tally, as well as social media data and touring revenue from Billboard Boxscore, while the genre-focused top artist charts blend performances from decades of acting on major song and album titles from each genre (such as, for country, Hot Country songs and best country albums).
