Egyptian artist Ibrahim El-Dessouki to participate in the first Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennial in Saudi Arabia – Visual Arts – Arts & Culture

Scheduled from December 11, 2021 to March 11, 2022 in Diriyah, a historic city on the outskirts of Riyadh, the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale is the first Saudi biennial of this size to showcase the work of dozens of international artists and create a dialogue.

Focusing on showcasing contemporary art from the Kingdom, participants include more than 25 Saudi artists, such as Sarah Abu Abdallah, Hmoud Al Attawi, Zahrah Al Ghamdi, Jowhara AlSaud, Omar Abduljawad, Maha Malluh, among others. International participants include names from Kuwait, Morocco, Germany, Italy, Ireland, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Georgia, Kenya, Bahamas, United States, South Africa, Japan, China and Singapore.

Born in 1969, Ibrahim El-Dessouki is a mid-career Egyptian contemporary visual artist and the only Egyptian artist chosen to present his work at the Diriyah Biennale.

El-Dessouki’s creative influence comes from the 1980s marked by the development of global capitalism, political upheaval, global mass media, wealth gaps and distinctive music and fashion, characterized by hip hop and fashion. electronic pop music.

The 1_54 African Art Fair reveals El-Dessouky’s biography in these terms: “Ibrahim El-Dessouki’s painting style is defined by his unique treatment of painting, accentuated by his ability to create subtle changes in its texture. ; his unusual use of negative space; and his skillful manipulation of light and shade. While the artist’s genres encompass portrait, landscape and still life, El Dessouki’s subject matter is very Egypt-centric and captures his own unique and hypnotic perspective of the soul and essence of Egypt.

The Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale will be the Kingdom’s first international contemporary art biennial which, as the organizers state, aims to provide a platform for discovery, connection and dialogue.
