On the occasion of the 15e anniversary of the inauguration of the national monument dedicated to Pope Saint John Paul II which took place on 16e October 2006, the JP2 Foundation hosted the Eurode Jugendorchestra Herzogenrath Youth Orchestra from Germany.

This is the third time that the JP2 Foundation has hosted this youth orchestra which was under the musical direction of Mro Joseph Grech.

The 25 members of the German orchestra joined with local musicians who are members of the Wind and Youth Orchestra of Gozo. They attended the 11:30 am Mass at Gozo Cathedral on Sunday 17the October 2021.

Miss Antonella Portelli animated the mass with her tender voice which gave a touch of glamor to the orchestra.

Today Friday 22sd October 2021 is the liturgical feast of Pope Saint John Paul II. ‘Messa Totus Tuus’ will be performed for the first time. Michelangelo Muscat’s composition for orchestra and choir will be performed during a thanksgiving mass celebrated by Reverend Mons Carmelo Refalo. The commemoration will begin at 6.30 p.m. at the parish church of the Nativity of Our Lady of Xaghra.

The events commemorating this holiday will end on Sunday 24e October 2021 with a Sacred Music Concert under the musical direction of Mro. Abraham D’Amato with the “Cappella Musicale Cæciliana” orchestra, with guest musician clarinetist Jessica Ellul and tenor soloist Angelo Muscat, soprano Astrid Cacciatore and bass Albert Buttigieg at the Basilica of Xaghra from 6:00 pm.
