Renowned singer-songwriters The Arrow and The Bow reunite and release their first single in nearly five years
Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter duo The Arrow and The Bow, with angelic vocals and ethereal lyrics from Hillary Reynolds and Hannah Lou Woods, have announced their long-awaited return with the release of their debut single in almost five years. “Universe” (High Vibe Records) is now available on all DSPs and, according to the duo, is the first in a new collection of songs.
Describing the track as more âraw and earthyâ than songs from the past with an âeclectic folk / world / pop vibe,â Reynolds and Woods say âUniverseâ was originally written in 2016 for their eponymous debut EP. However, with only vocals and drums, they felt it didn’t fit their eponymous release and decided to hang on to it – until now.
Hillary and I wrote ‘Universe’ in the hopes of empowering others. To help listeners believe in themselves and have the courage to take the next steps to do something they may be afraid of, something outside of their comfort zone, “said Woods. “In these particularly uncertain times, it seemed fortuitous that this song was on both of our minds at the SAME time after all these years. That’s when we knew we had to release it.”
“Universe”, which was recorded at Ugly Duck Studios (Boston, MA) and co-produced with Dave Chapman, is the first in a new collection of songs from The Arrow and The Bow. The duo are currently in the early stages of recording their second single, which is slated for release in 2022. The upcoming music mix will be their first since their debut album The Arrow and The Bow (2016), which featured them. catapulted to the top of the independent singer-songwriter scene.
However, although the duo haven’t released music together in over five years, they have been busy writing and recording as solo artists and for other bands and musicians. In fact, Reynolds co-wrote one of Little Big Town’s hits from their 2020 Billboard chart album, Nightfall, and met with success with their critically acclaimed single âWhat Faith Isâ in 2021. criticism, in particular by the magazine Skope which wrote:
Hillary Reynolds is a dynamic singer / songwriter who honored us with her touching performance on the blessed new single “What Faith Is”. The song is about hope and “What Faith Is” is a bright spark in the wild world of today. .”
Woods was also busy unveiling new music in 2021 with her electronic folk / pop duo We Saw Lions. The duo released their critically and fan-acclaimed second EP Flesh & Bone (High Vibe Records), which helped them reach 80,000 monthly listeners and over 2.4 million streams on Spotify. The debut single from the album “Skeletons” was so revered by critics that The Deli Magazine advertised it as:
“An impressive debut, both vulnerable and upbeat. Woods’ vocal performance is perfect in tone and character, and Chapman’s production is present and supportive, without ever being brutal.” (Brian Varneke, The Deli Magazine, Boston and New England)
Before Flesh & Bone, We Saw Lions went viral with their single “Cellular Upgrade (We Saw Lions Remix)” (2020), which now has 2.3 million streams on Spotify, and was successful with their debut EP Wake Up (Jumpsuit Records; Ayla Nereo, Ambassador of Poland).
Yet even after being separated, now that they’re back together, The Arrow and The Bow say they feel like they haven’t missed a thing. âAfter five years of waiting, we finally felt like it was a good time to release ‘Universe’,â said Woods. “We’re already in the early stages of co-producing our next single and exploring remote recording with each of us in different places. It all comes together naturally, as always.”
