ROCK OF AGES at Broadway Palm

The Broadway Palm Dinner Theater often presents family shows. Parents, be warned. rock of ages is not one. The sex, drugs and rock and roll of the 1980s are on stage for all to see.

That said, the jukebox musical is a good time. The cast members sing the greatest hits from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi and the rest of that era. And the public eats it.

The plot is as fragile as some costumes. A cash-hungry developer attempts to tear down an iconic rock/bar. Militant protesters led by feisty Caitie L. Moss spring into action to arrest him and his hilarious not-gay-just-German son.

Although many of the lavishly bewigged performers make their debut with Prather Productions, some favorites return. Dale Obermark, who played the romantic lead in the recent production of Margaritaville, assumes a similar role here: a young musician trying to succeed. Ellie Roddy, seen earlier in Sing in the rain, is well-matched as her love interest. The duo offers strong vocals alone and in duos. And of course, no show would be complete without a role for Victor Legaretta.

No judgment, but if you remember the 80s, you’ll feel right at home. Don’t forget your cigarette lighter.

Rock of Ages runs until June 25. Visit to purchase a ticket or call 239-278-4422.
